PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A student at La Salle Academy reported on Friday that they were one of many students nationwide to receive a racist text message, invoking slavery. There has only been one individual at the school who has received the text and reported it, according to La Salle Academy’s principal. The text has been sent to people of color across the country, reading you have been “selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation.” People from around the country have reported receiving this text, and others similar in nature since the election. The source of these text messages is unknown at this time, however authorities are investigating. A notification was sent out to the La Salle community regarding the text. Categories: News
