NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Rain and storms are on the way Wednesday as a cold front moves in from the west. This front will meet up with the remnants of Rafael as they drift inland over the western part of the state. Expect isolated to scattered storms by late morning through the afternoon and evening. There is a small window of opportunity to see strong to severe storms as well, and we currently have a level 1 threat from the Storm Prediction Center over the entire area. Strong wind gusts and an isolated tornado is not out of the question. This does not look like a setup that would cause a widespread severe outbreak, but an isolated storm or two could tap into the ingredients needed to produce severe weather. Have a way to get warnings through the day if they are issued for your area. By Wednesday night and Thursday as the front moves east we will see cooler and drier air filter in. Much more seasonable conditions will be moving in for the end of the week. Look for highs in the 70s through the weekend with lows dipping into the 50s and even some upper 40s in the northern areas by Friday morning.
