According to the House Clerk's website, the Republican conference in the U.S. House of Representatives elects the chair. The chair presides over conference meetings and is a member of the House Republican leadership team.
Houchin said in the statement that as chair, she would help Republicans communicate their vision as Trump enters his second presidential term.
"Having owned and operated a communications firm, I know how to reach the right audience at the right time," Houchin said in the statement. "The role of conference chair is not about being in the spotlight; it’s about amplifying our members' voices and providing them the tools they need. As legacy media fades, I’ll carry forward President Trump’s approach of taking our message directly to the American people and I will do my part to help our conference succeed.”
