FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - On Tuesday, the Allen County Coroner identified the teenager who was shot and killed Sunday night by an officer with the Fort Wayne Police Department.
The coroner identified him as 16-year-old Ah Mee Kun. The cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death is Homicide-Police Action Shooting, the standard ruling for shootings involving police.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the 4200 block of Avondale Drive off Lafayette Street, where it had been reported there were people walking along the road with firearms threatening to shoot. Police at the scene found several people, and Kun had a firearm, FWPD said.
Kun was shot after refusing to follow verbal commands from the officers, FWPD said, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
One officer involved was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It's not known how he was hurt.
The shooting is still under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office. Indiana State Police are conducting an independent investigation, as is the protocol for shootings involving officers.
