EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- Jungle Reef Aquarium, a privately owned and operated aquarium and petting zoo at the former Sunland Park Mall, passed its latest inspection by the U.S. Department of Agriculture last month, according to documents obtained by KTSM.
"No non-compliant items" were found during the inspection which happened on Oct. 8, according to a USDA report.
Jungle Reef, located at the Shoppes of Solana, bills itself as El Paso's "hands-on aquarium."
This inspection compared favorably to the August one in which the death of two animals were reported as well as issues with improper feeding and incomplete animal care records.
Jungle Reef under scrutiny again after USDA inspection report
In the October inspection, there fewer animals that were inspected including ducks and chickens. It is unclear from the report whether Jungle Reef still has those animals or if they weren't part of the inspection.
The owners of Jungle Reef said they never had chickens, and their duck was "rehomed" several months ago.
Previously, Jungle Reef had also rehomed a lemur after earlier inspections had documented issues about its care and the facility.

"I just want to emphasize that the focus on last month's report reflects our ongoing improvements at Jungle Reef. Any discussions about past inspection reports are outdated, much like the references to chickens and ducks," Jungle Reef said in a statement sent to KTSM.
"It's worth noting that we passed the (October) inspection without any citations and have made significant strides with the USDA," they also said.
