EPCC women 3rd in nation in half marathon, men take 5th

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- The El Paso Community College women's cross country team finished on the podium during the Half Marathon National Championships on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Richmond, Virginia.
The EPCC women took third overall with 36 points. Salt Lake won the women's title with 11 points, followed by New Mexico Junior College in second at 26. Low score wins in cross country.
The EPCC men took fifth place.

The race was sanctioned by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
The EPCC women were paced by a 10th-place finish from Antonia Ronoh at 1 hour, 24.11 minutes. Esnath "Pinkie" Ndlovu was at 17th overall, and Hannah Martinez was at 28th overall, one day after her 19th birthday.
The EPCC men were led by Hector Sanchez with a ninth-place finish at 1:07.46, Ian Kiprono with a 23rd overall finish at 1:09.48, and Wallace Kigen finished 25th. As a team, EPCC men finished with 50 points, and followed New Mexico JC (45), Odessa in third (36), Salt Lake in second (15), and Iowa Western, the men’s champion with 11 points.
The top 25 men earn NJCAA Coaches All-American honors, so Sanchez, Kiprono and Kigen earn garnered those honors. On the women’s side, the top 18 earn honors, so Ronoh and Ndlovu earn Coaches Association All-American honors.
In 2025, Iowa Central will host the NJCAA National Championship in cross country and half marathon on Nov. 8-11 at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa,
The NJCAA Division I, II, and III Men's and Women's Cross Country & Half Marathon Championships feature over 1,300 student-athletes and over 300 coaches participating from NJCAA member colleges. On average, 2,000 spectators from around the world attend these national championships.
On Friday, EPCC Head Coach Felix Hinojosa was named West Region Coach of the Year.
