BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The Bismarck Public Schools (BPS) District and Foundation has partnered with Sanford Health to provide teachers with grants so they can help students make healthy choices. Sanford Fit is a Children’s Health Initiative created to empower kids and families to make healthy choices. The program's mini-grant program allows teachers to apply for $250 grants to assist with classroom needs. Any BPS teacher is eligible to apply, but requests have to be consistent with the BPS mission and with the Foundation's areas of interest. Mini-grants should include a strategy to promote educational equity for students and to increase learning in one of the four key pillars of Sanford Fit: Recharge, Mood, Food, or Move. These include Nicole Smith, a special education teacher at Grimsrud Elementary, Leah Wheeling, a physical education teacher at Simle Middle School, and Kendall Bergrud, an AVID teacher at Wachter Middle School and the 2025 ND Teacher of the Year.
