EMPORIA (KSNT) - An Emporia nonprofit health center said it is experiencing a shortage of vaccine necessary for children to attend school. CareArc based out of Emporia announced in a press release on Tuesday, Nov. 12 that it has a shortage of the meningitis vaccine provided to the community through its Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. Meningitis vaccines are required for children to attend school. CareArc said it is waiting for additional shipments of the vaccine but have been told deliveries of this will be delayed for November. The health center said it is working with state officials to acquire more of the vaccines for local children. "We encourage families to stay in touch with us, and we will notify them immediately once the vaccine arrives," said Melissa Smith, CareArc Community Health manager. "Our commitment is to ensure that every eligible child has access to the vaccines they need, and we appreciate our community’s patience during this delay." VFC provides vaccines for children who are uninsured, underinsured or covered by Medicaid to ensure all children have access to necessary immunizations regardless of their financial situations.
