Center Township names former IPS school board member as new constable
Nov 12, 2024
INDIANAPOLIS -- Center Township recently named its new constable after the township's former constable was removed from her post.
According to a post on social media, Kenneth Allen, a former member of the Indianapolis Public Schools Board of Commissioners, was elected by members of the township's precinct committee to fill the constable vacancy. Allen was first elected to the IPS school board in 2021
This comes after Denise Hatch, Center Township's former constable, pleaded guilty to official misconduct, a Level 6 felony, as well as misdemeanor charges of unlawful carry of a firearm and disorderly conduct. Hatch was subsequently removed from her post.
According to previous reports, Hatch served more than 200 days in jail as part of her guilty plea. Over the course of the last year, Hatch faced four counts of official misconduct, as well as counts of theft, attempted assisting a criminal, attempted resisting law enforcement, unlawful carrying of a handgun and disorderly conduct.

The post read that Allen stepped down from his post on the IPS school board to become the constable because, under Indiana law, an individual is not able to hold two "lucrative elected offices at the same time."
According to Marion County election results, Allen lost his bid for reelection for the IPS seat earlier this month after receiving 21.6% of the votes for the board's at-large seat. Deandra (Dee) Thompson received 56.18% of the vote.
"Serving our schools and community has been an incredible honor, and I am deeply grateful to the thousands of voters, supporters, volunteers, and donors who worked tirelessly to re-elect me," Allen said in the post. "Your faith in me has meant the world, and together, we have achieved so much."
Allen said he was "humbled and honored" to be elected to fill the vacancy in the Center Township Constable's office.
"Here’s to this new chapter and the incredible work ahead," the post read.
