(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Pikes Peak United Way and Harrison School District 2 (D2) are teaming up to bring holiday cheer to local families in need this season — and they're asking for the community's support.
The Adopt-a-Family program connects community members with families experiencing financial hardship, providing essentials and special holiday gifts. Through their partnership, Pikes Peak United Way and D2 ensure donations reach those who most need them. Contributions include gift cards, clothing, household items, toys, and holiday treats, tailored to each family's needs.
This year, the initiative aims to support 227 families, with help from local businesses, community groups, and individuals.
"We are incredibly grateful for the community's response to this program," said Elizabeth Quevedo, Senior Vice President of Community Impact at Pikes Peak United Way. "This holiday season, 227 families will experience the warmth and support of our community, and we're thrilled to bring smiles and joy to these families."
Interested donors can sign up to learn more about each family's needs and wish lists. Donations can be dropped off at the Pikes Peak United Way Family Success Center, 1520 Verde Drive, on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"At D2, we support families because we realize successful families pave the way for successful student outcomes," said Dr. Wendy Birhanzel, superintendent at D2. "Your generosity and compassion can make a difference and ease the stress of the holidays for our students and their families. Thank you for considering the gift of hope this year."
