Decision Desk calls House of Representatives for Republicans
Nov 11, 2024
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Decision Desk HQ has projected that Republicans will retain the House of Representatives, The Hill reports.
The call was made at 7:23 p.m. on Monday, November 11. The projection means that President-elect Donald Trump will have a governing trifecta going into his term in 2025, with the GOP controlling the Presidency, Senate and House. That trifecta is key to the future President passing the elements that make up his political agenda for the country.
Decision Desk HQ currently projects that Republicans will win 220 seats, representing a mere three-seat majority in the chamber. Democrats will hold 215.
218 seats are needed for either party to control. In 2020, Democrats won 222 seats to Republicans' 213, giving the former a five-seat majority. In the 2022 Midterm Elections, Republicans flipped the House with the same five-seat margin as the opposing party two years prior.
The GOP was able to hang on to their majority by flipping key Democratic-held seats in Pennsylvania and Michigan while retaining Republican seats in California and Florida. Democrats were able to eat into Republicans' majority by flipping key races in New York and holding vulnerable seats in Ohio and Washington.
It should be noted that the Associated Press has not yet called the House of Representatives race.
