Breezy winds return Tuesday afternoon
Nov 11, 2024
After a record-setting winter storm, quieter weather returns to New Mexico this week. Another storm is possible late this upcoming weekend.
It was a calm and quiet start to the week across New Mexico with temperatures generally warmer than on Sunday. Highs were back closer to average for this time of year. Winds are going to increase Tuesday afternoon as a dip in the jet stream crosses the state. This could bring westerly wind gusts up to 45 mph in northern New Mexico. A cold front will also sweep across the state, leaving temperatures as much as 10° to 15° cooler than today.
A warming trend starts again on Thursday and will continue into Friday. A ridge of high pressure builds to the south Thursday then southwest winds increase Friday as another storm begins approaching New Mexico. There is a lot of uncertainty still with this next storm system, but it will likely start bringing back rain and mountain snow to parts of New Mexico Sunday, with more widespread rain and snow and colder temperatures next Monday.
