GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Goochland County is launching a new program designed to honor local veterans and active-duty service members with commemorative banners. On Veterans Day, the county announced the start of its "Goochland Veterans Military Tribute Banner Program," through which residents can honor a veteran, active-duty service member, reserve or National Guard member with a commemorative banner. According to the county, the photo, military details and family name of each honoree will be put on a full-color banner with a patriotic design. These banners will be displayed along River Road West and Sandy Hook Road from Memorial Day through Veterans Day 2025. ‘We thank you’: Veterans honored at Virginia War Memorial’s 68th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony "These banners will serve as a tribute to our community’s veterans, offering residents an opportunity to say 'Thank You' to those who have given so much for our country," the county said. Once the banners come down, they will be given to the family of the honoree as a keepsake. This program is free of cost to any families interested in honoring a loved one. The deadline is April 30, 2025 but the county encourages anyone who wants to guarantee a spot for their loved one to make their submissions as soon as possible due to limited space.
