Rhode Island Football took a few steps back in the national polls but remained in both the Stats Perform and AFCA Top 25 rankings at No. 15/18 on Monday morning. The downgrade comes on the heels of the Rams’ (8-2, 5-1 CAA Football) Nov. 9 loss at Delaware. Rhode Island fell to the Blue Hens, 24-21, marking its first FCS loss of the 2024 season to a program that is transitioning to the FBS level for next year. URI’s defense propped up the team in the result and was directly responsible for two of the scores. A strip sack recovered by linebacker Harolid Miles III gave the Rams favorable field position at Delaware’s 35-yard line, which eventually resulted in a touchdown by wide receiver Marquis Buchanan, and a fumble recovery by linebacker Devin Hightower was returned 21 yards for a touchdown. Stats Perform had four total CAA Football teams ranked, tabbing Villanova ninth, Richmond 11th and Stony Brook 16th. Both William & Mary (55) and New Hampshire (10) received votes. The AFCA put the Spiders at No. 7, the Wildcats at No. 8 and the Seawolves at No. 17. The Tribe earned 18 votes. Rhode Island will return home to Meade Stadium to host UAlbany on Saturday, Nov. 16. Prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff, head coach Jim Fleming and his staff will honor the team’s seniors with a special ceremony. In celebration of the team’s ranking, the Rhode Island Ticket Office is offering 20% off tickets for the game against the Great Danes. The sale begins Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. and will run through the same time on the following day. Tickets can be purchased HERE. Categories: Sports
