NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — In the 1900 block of Mirabeau Avenue in Gentilly, you'll find dozens of nearly identical buildings, most of them lined up in perfect order, like a formation, like our troops. Those buildings are helping our veterans after they return from serving our country. How the WWII Museum can help people connect with history "If you're a veteran, and you served and need a place to stay, a place to land, Bastion is here," Charise Harper told WGNO News. Harper is the operations coordinator for the Bastion Community of Resilience which manages the property. Bastion provides housing for more than 100 people in the 58 units it manages. Veterans, some with families, call the community home. Bastion Community of Resilience on Mirabeau Avenue in Gentilly Many of the veterans are choosing to live at Bastion because they've struggled to return to life back home after serving their country. They pay rent for their homes, and Bastion provides a list of classes and assistance programs to help the veterans adjust to civilian life. Physical therapy, counseling and homebuying assistance are just some of the benefits available as well as a variety of enrichment classes like music, yoga and Zumba. WGNO also interviews a Marine veteran who is a current Bastion resident. For more on how the program has helped him, watch the video at the top of this story.
