Man dies in Pāhoa after being hit in driveway

PĀHOA, Hawai‘i (KHON2) -- A man is dead on Hawai‘i Island after being hit by a van in the driveway of a residence on Sunday, Nov. 10.

The single-vehicle collision happened on Sunday morning in the 15-2700 block of Maiko Street.
Honolulu EMS respond to multiple Central Oahu incidents
Reports said a 50-year-old man from Kea‘au was driving a white, 2008 Ford Econoline van when he struck the 79-year-old man in the driveway.
The victim was later identified as George D. Coit.
Paramedics transported Coit to Hilo Benioff Medical Center where doctors pronounced him dead at 3:40 p.m.
Officials said the driver of the van was not injured.
Hawai‘i Island police opened a negligent homicide investigation for the incident. Anyone with information is advised to call Officer Johnathan Rapoza at (808) 961-2339.

According to HPD, the collision does not count as a fatality because it did not happen on a public roadway.
