The night featured some special guests, including a message from the International Space Station to the chefs (it is Space city, after all), the first lady of Texas Cecilia Abbott, and Houston mayor John Whitmire.
The speculation is that Michelin could award its first star to a barbecue restaurant with the Texas awards. Eater Dallas put together its wish list for local restaurants that could earn stars, including Georgie, El Carlos Elegante, Don Artemio, Tatsu, and Town Hearth, as well as some thoughts on Green Star restaurants in DFW.

The prestigious awards are much sought after by hospitality groups and chefs. It will determine how dining in Dallas and Fort Worth, as well as areas beyond where Michelin diners choose to venture, for months to come. Businesses frequently see an uptick in sales and visitors, as the Michelin guide is the gold standard for many travelers. Being awarded stars increases interest from diners, both local and out-of-market.
Michelin stars and Bib Gourmands are awarded based on a system that considers the quality of the ingredients and products, the harmony of flavors, the voice and personality of the chef as reflected in the food, and the consistency of the food across multiple visits. Michelin sends inspectors to dine at restaurants anonymously, and they have been rating Texas restaurants ahead of the ceremony since July.
One-star restaurants are “worth a stop,” two stars mean worth a detour,” and three stars are reserved for exceptional restaurants worth going out of one way to eat at. Green Stars are awarded to restaurants that push the envelope in sustainable measures, while Bib Gourmand’s are for value restaurants with outstanding food. There are also recommended restaurants that are listed in the guide.
