Fallen Golden police officer's memorial service arrangements announced
Nov 11, 2024
DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation announced the time and date of a memorial service for Golden Police Department Officer Evan Dunn, who was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 6.
Dunn, 33, had served as an Army Aviation officer and Black Hawk helicopter pilot before joining the Golden department. Dunn was also an active captain in the Army National Guard.
Law enforcement encourages drivers to respect ‘Move Over’ law
Dunn and his police partner Bethany Grusing were responding to a car crash on Highway 58 after dark on Nov. 6. Another driver, who is suspected to have been impaired, crashed into the scene, pinning both Dunn and Grusing under the car they'd first responded to. Dunn was killed at the scene, while Grusing was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
A fundraiser to help support Grusing and her loved ones while she is recovering from the crash has been established through the MC-1 Foundation.
Private memorial planned, but public can still honor Dunn
According to the Colorado Fallen Hero Fund, which has set up a fundraiser to assist Dunn's family following his death, the family and the Golden Police Department said that while they "greatly appreciate all of the outreach and condolences from the community," the memorial services will be private and not open to the public.
However, a large turnout is still anticipated from members of the Golden community and law enforcement. On Monday, the Colorado Fallen Hero Fund announced that the memorial service for Dunn will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Mission Hills Church, 620 Southpark Drive, Littleton.
A procession will transport Dunn's body from C-470, northbound on Lucent Boulevard, to eastbound West County Line Road on Wednesday. Because of this, West County Line Road will be closed at about 10 a.m. from Lucent Boulevard to South Elati Street. Traffic will also be restricted around Mission Hills Church.
Members of the public who wish to show their support for Dunn can do so by safely lining West County Line Road between South Santa Fe Drive and Lucent Boulevard, or at the Golden Police Department. A memorial has been established in front of the department's headquarters on 10th Street in Golden.
A Black Hawk helicopter from the Colorado Army National Guard 2-135th Aviation Regiment will conduct a flyover and land near Mission Hills Church before the service begins. Because of this, the use of drones in the area is strongly discouraged.
Donations for the Dunn family can be submitted through the Colorado Fallen Hero Fund.
