MINOT, ND (KXNET) — With the entire state of North Dakota celebrating Veterans Day, the Magic City honored veterans Monday morning in a very unique way. Starting at 11 a.m., those with the VFW Post 753 and Peace and Honor Quilts of Valor Foundation, hosted a Veterans Day celebration in the Minot Municipal Auditorium Armory. After being nominated by someone anonymously, nine veterans were given Quilts of Valor. Quilts of Valor has been around since 2003 and has been making quilts for veterans touched by war. Veterans Voices: Paratrooper Paul Hamers lands back in North Dakota The Program Chair for the Foundation, Lynn Heald, says the quilts are a way of letting veterans know: they matter. "It's a way of saying someone really is thinking about me and you might see today. You might have that big burley guy up there who you think can handle anything and he's gonna have tears rolling down his face because it does mean a lot to him, that somebody took the time to think about him," said Heald.
