MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Construction of Railway Avenue in Minot is nearing completion, and the street is expected to open to through traffic on the evening of Friday, November 15th. This construction is part of the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project (MREFPP), which began in 2011 to reduce the risk of flooding throughout the Mouse River Basin. All the enhanced flood protection projects currently under construction or being designed provide a level of protection equal to the 2011 flood, plus three feet of freeboard. Drivers are asked to exhibit caution while traveling through the corridor, as work will continue in the boulevards and behind the back of the sidewalk. Work completed in this corridor since the roadway was first closed includes the following: 2,500 Feet of Concrete Floodwall 2,300 Feet of Earthen Embankment 4,400 Feet of Roadway Improvements Nearly 53,000 Feet of Underground Utilities were removed and replaced. When completed and connected to the first four phases of the MREFPP, the MI-5 phase will help remove about 60 percent of Minot residents from the proposed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) floodplain.
