OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Oklahoma Schools Superintendent Ryan Walters on Monday announced the formation of Trump Education Advisory Committee to oversee federal public education policy changes. On November 8, Supt. Walters outlined a memo to Oklahoma parents and superintendents discussing five major areas where President-Elect Donald Trump proposed eliminating the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and moving to alternative funding mechanisms. The five areas include: Championing parents’ rights, ending social indoctrination in classrooms, protecting patriotism in curriculum, stopping illegal immigration’s impact on schools, and blocking foreign influence in our schools. Walters confirms a search is underway to identify education leaders and policy makers who have proven championing public education, upholding parental rights and minimizing wasteful government bureaucracy. I look forward to announcingcommittee members in the coming days, individuals who are dedicated to improvingOklahoma’s academic outcomes and getting to work on ways we can continue to champion thepriorities outlined in my memo to parents and schools last week.” The goals according to Supt. Walters are to: Set clear priorities in alignment with President Trump’s education policies: Identify and prioritize Oklahoma’s educational needs in alignment with the new federal agenda. Replace federal programs: Develop strategies to replace or revise outdated federal programs, keeping local needs and values at the forefront. Develop legislative recommendations for President Trump’s education priorities: Provide policy guidance and recommendations to ensure Oklahoma’s education policies align with the broader goals of the Trump administration.
