Nov 11, 2024
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — How voters feel about recreational marijuana is slowly becoming more clear as the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder's Office (EPC County Clerk and Recorder) continues to tabulate votes.
At 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, the EPC Clerk and Recorder gave another update on the 2024 General Election via X (formerly known as Twitter) with new unofficial results, which showed 54.64% of voters in favor of Ballot Question 300, and 45.36% of voters against it. The other recreational marijuana measure, Ballot Question 2D, remains extremely close.

Question 300 asks to amend City ordinance to allow existing medical marijuana licensees to apply to become licensed as retail/recreational marijuana businesses. A "yes" vote authorizes only medical licensees to become recreational retailers, however, retailers must follow regulations and the Colorado Springs City Code which prohibits:
Any retail/recreational marijuana business within 1,000 feet of a public or private daycare, preschool, or K-12 school.
Sale or transfer of recreational marijuana to anyone under 21.
Sale or transfer of recreational marijuana by any person at any public or private school, daycare, or preschool.
Can recreational marijuana be sold in Colorado Springs?
The other measure, Ballot Question 2D, asks to amend the Charter of the City of Colorado Springs to prohibit retail marijuana establishments within City limits. So far, 50.50% of voters said no and 49.50% said yes. The 1% difference between yes and no votes is outside the automatic .5% recount zone in Colorado.
EPC Clerk and Recorder will drop the next round of unofficial results on Thursday, Nov. 14, after the ballot cure and Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) deadline.
