New London police have released the name of the 70-year-old man they say shot two people at a senior living facility Nov. 8 as well as what they believe was his motive. Roger Murray of New London shot the 52-year-old female office manager of the Windy Acres complex in the chest and shot a 56-year-old maintenance man in the head before turning the gun on himself, according to a news release issued by New London police Chief Joseph Hicks. The shooting occurred at the 96 Clifton St. complex at 10:52 a.m. The victims were transported to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries and were released, the release stated. “We are happy to say that both victims have since been released from the hospital and are resting at home,” Hicks wrote. “We wish to praise them for their actions during that stressful situation.” As the investigation continues to evolve, the New London Police Department is working to gather additional details, according to Hicks. Thus far, evidence and information collected have established what appears to be a preliminary motive for the shooting, Hicks wrote. Murray, who was a resident of the complex, had filed multiple repair requests for his apartment and felt they were not being adequately addressed, according to Hicks. Murray also was believed to be further distraught over the matter due to a pending site inspection, the chief wrote. Following the shootings, personnel from the New London Police Department and the Huron County Sheriff’s Office entered the building where they located the two injured victims locked in the main office, police have stated. The victims were able to get through a window where EMS personnel were waiting to transport them to separate area hospitals, Hicks wrote. Murray’s body was found in the complex’s lobby, according to Hicks. The Huron County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations assisted at the scene and provided additional investigative support, police stated. The New London Police Department encourages anyone with information regarding the incident to call 419-929-3504 or the Huron County Sheriff’s Office at 419-663-2828. Tipsters may remain anonymous, Hicks wrote.
