Mentor Public Library is offering five free computer classes this November at its Lake Branch, including introductions on how to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Facebook. The classes will be: Basic Computers and Internet Searching at 2 p.m. Nov. 19. Attendees will learn the basic skills needed to use a computer and search the Internet. No previous experience required, according to a news release. Word 1 at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19. Learn how to use Microsoft Word to create documents. Facebook Basics at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 20. Learn how to use Facebook and its features. Participants are asked to come with their Facebook login information, including password. Excel I at 2 p.m. Nov. 20. In this class, people will learn how to describe a worksheet and its function; create a basic worksheet and learn how to save it to disk; apply simple formulas to perform calculations; apply simple formatting; and explore options for printing a simple worksheet. Microsoft Word experience is necessary for this class, the release stated. Word 2 at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20. Learn more advanced techniques for Microsoft Word. Discover how to adjust a document’s spacing, alignment, margins and orientation and how to use spell and grammar check, mini toolbars, thesaurus and other tools. All of the classes are free. However, registration is required and opens two weeks before the class is scheduled. Anyone can sign up at www.mentorpl.org by calling the library at 440-257-2512. The Lake Branch is located at 5642 Andrews Road in Mentor-on-the-Lake. The library also offers several online courses that teach how to use Microsoft software with the LinkedIn Learning database.
