PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Police are investigating after a crash involving a Providence police cruiser and another vehicle happened early Sunday morning. Col. Oscar Perez said an officer was responding to a call on Atwells Avenue around 2 a.m. when another vehicle pulled an abrupt U-turn, crashing into the cruiser. The officer was brought to Rhode Island Hospital and later got released, according to Perez. The other vehicle's driver suffered a concussion among other minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. Two women passengers were also taken to Rhode Island Hospital for minor injuries. Perez said the driver was issued a citation for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, an illegal U-turn and having no insurance.
