RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Eastern Kentucky football is on a three game winning run and has bested ranked opponents for the second time in as many weeks.
The Colonels beat No. 16 Central Arkansas 31-24 behind a Joshua Carter rushing touchdown with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
On defense, the Colonels had a field day. Two takeaways and a stingy third down defense (3/12 for CAU) helped Eastern heavily.
The third phase was also in full gear. Tight end Caeleb Schlachter opened the second half with a 73-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
The Colonels have defeated two ranked opponents in a single season for the first time since 2008.
Head Coach Walt Wells’ team travels to Austin Peay, a long standing rival, next Saturday November 16 at 2 p.m.
