FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Saturday, officials held a grand opening for the Sterling Chapel, rededicated the Vietnam Memorial Wall and presented W Paul Wolf with the distinguished Sagamore of the Wabash Award. Visitors and veterans alike were able to tour the new Jeanette Sterling Chapel throughout the afternoon. Also, the Vietnam Memorial Wall was re-dedicated after being closed for a little over a month due to construction. Organizers say they were excited have both projects completed in time for Veterans Day, Monday. "We had a five-year vision, and here we are in year four, and I never expected it to be this far along. It's because of the community involvement, whether it's the small donors or the big corporate donors or individual donors, to have a place like this in Fort Wayne, Indiana," said Greg Bedford, Commander at the Veterans Memorial Shrine and Museum. W Paul Wolf, a retired banker from Fort Wayne, received the distinguished Sagamore of the Wabash Award. It is the highest honor, which the Governor of Indiana bestows. W Paul was instrumental in the new War History Museum at the Veterans Monument, as well as the Korean Soldiers monument at the memorial park. The Sagamore of the Wabash was created nearly 80 years ago to honor individuals who have performed distinguished service to Indiana.
