BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Bakersfield and Kern County fire departments are battling a two-alarm structure fire in east Bakersfield Saturday.
At about 9:46 a.m., multiple firefighters were dispatched to reports of a structure fire at 99 Washington Street. The Kern County Fire Department and Bakersfield Fire Department are both on scene. The fire is affecting two warehouses and firefighters are performing defensive operations to stop the spread of the fire to nearby threatened structures.
Jon Drucker, Public Information Officer with KCFD says the air quality will be affected but there are no toxins being placed in the air. Road closures are in place for incident operations.
Drucker says inside the building is plastic irrigation drip line that is burning. Both warehouses are approximately 10,000 square feet in size, completely full of plastic irrigation drip lines.
The California Highway Patrol is providing traffic control at Virginia Avenue and Washington Street.
