ExBay Area rocker who murdered girlfriend begins serving sentence

(KRON) -- A former Bay Area rock band member began serving his prison sentence on Friday after he was convicted of murdering his girlfriend. A Santa Cruz County judge sentenced Theobald "Mylo" Lengyel to serve 25 years to life in prison.
Lengyel, a former member of the ’90s band Mr. Bungle, is now listed as an inmate at North Kern State Prison, California inmate records show.
Alice "Alyx" Kamakaokalani Herrmann was strangled to death inside her Capitola beach house on Dec. 4, 2023. Herrmann loved the ocean and she was a member of a local canoeing club, Outrigger Santa Cruz.
Evidence at trial showed Lengyel, 56, of El Cerrito, tortured his victim and taunted her for hours in between strangling her. Jurors listened to a chilling, three-hour-long recording found by investigators on Herrmann's phone. The victim recorded her own homicide using the iPhone app "Just Press Record for iOS."
The jury could not see Herrmann, but they could hear her as she begged Lengyel to leave her house and let her live. Herrmann said, "What’s happening to my face? I can’t see." She gasps and groans for air. Lengyel said, "How do you want to die? Blunt trauma or something else?"
Herrmann said, "You want your kids to be the kids of a murderer? Stop it." Lengyel replied, "It’s too f***ing late for that." Prosecutors said Herrmann screamed "stop it" 53 times until her voice trailed off and she died.
The victim's family reported her missing in December 2023 after she missed her flight to Hawaii. In January, police found Herrmann’s body hidden in Tilden Park in Berkeley.
During his sentencing hearing on Thursday, Lengyel apologized to the victim's loved ones, Lookout Santa Cruz reported. He said, "There’s nothing I can say that will make any difference, I am sorry. There’s no way to make up for the light that she would have shone in the future."
