(KRON) -- Alameda County voters are poised to boot their progressive district attorney, Pamela Price, out of office. Ballots were still being counted on Friday, however, early results show almost 65% of voters are in favor of recalling Price. During her brief two-year tenure as DA, Price directed her prosecutors to not seek maximum sentences for defendants. She previously told KRON4 that locking up criminals with lengthy sentences would not improve public safety. Her critics, including crime victims' family members, said soft-on-crime policies and plea deals robbed victims of justice in courtrooms. Multiple veteran trial prosecutors left the office out of legal and ethical concerns. A thousand misdemeanor cases were reportedly thrown out because deadlines to file charges were missed. This February, the county will likely have a new district attorney who will take over several high-profile felony murder cases. And with a new DA in charge, there will be a tidal wave of changes within the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Price is a former defense attorney and civil rights attorney. Her replacement will be picked by the Board of Supervisors in early 2025. Board president Nate Miley said, "We would be looking for someone who is a seasoned prosecutor because we need to make sure we have someone who has the experience and understands the role of a district attorney. You want to hold people accountable for their behaviors and their actions, particularly if they’re heinous."  Unresolved Alameda County murder cases include: Jasper Wu, toddler killed in freeway shooting Jasper Wu (Images courtesy the Wu family) Toddler Jasper Wu, 1, was riding in his family’s car when he was fatally shot on Interstate-880 in Oakland on Nov. 6, 2021. Investigators described the freeway shooting as a rolling gun battle between rival gangs. Former district attorney Nancy O’Malley charged Trevor Green, Ivory Bivens, and Johnny Jackson with murdering Wu, as well as gang and street terrorism enhancements. During Price's tenure, murder charges against Jackson were dropped. Green and Bivins are slated to stand trial for Jasper's death. The duo is slated to appear in court on December 6 to challenge the murder charges filed against them.
