NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Winter Storm Warnings, as well as Blizzard Warnings, are now less widespread across northeast New Mexico, as lingering snow, subsiding freezing fog, gusty winds, and cold air will continue to be the main threats for still many areas today, continuing the treacherous roadways, as well as power outages. The strongest storm system of the season, which has brought in the most snow and coldest air for many thus far already with even more when all is set and done, is slowly moving through New Mexico, cutoff from the southward dip in the jet stream, allowing for moisture to continue pile on in out east. It's cold enough for snow to still really continue to accumulate for most of the northeastern corner of The Land of Enchantment with 30-40 mph wind gusts in the far Northeast Highlands especially. As the trough of low pressure meanders northeast of New Mexico overnight into tomorrow, the widespread rain and snow will mostly eventually depart as temperatures will drop even more later today. Before then, temperatures will vary while reaching the upper teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and near 60 degrees from north-northwest to south-southeast in lower elevation. Unsettled weather will eventually depart late today into early tomorrow as conditions will slowly dry out while warming up this Veterans Day Weekend with snow melt expected for the lower elevations.
