Fire crews plan pile burns in Carson National Forest

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) –Carson National National Forrest officials say fire crews are planning to begin pile burning in and around Highway 150 and in the Valle Vidal. Officials say operations could begin as early as the week of November 11.

For Highway 150, officials say piles are spread along eight miles of the highway and two miles of the Wheeler Peak Trail. Ignition could begin as early as November 13 and last up to ten days, but burning days may not be consecutive. Smoke may be visible in Arroyo Hondo, Arroyo Seco, El Prado, Lama, San Cristobal, Taos Ski Valley and Valdez. For updates on the burn, click here.
For Valle Vidal, officials say piles are on the south end of the valley and burning could begin as early as November 11. The operations will be on the forest boundary off Highway 38 and east of Red River. Smoke may be visible from Highway 38. For updates on the burn, click here.
