Proposal would put park in Richmond’s Southside along Walmsley Boulevard
Nov 08, 2024
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A proposed ordinance would build a new park in Richmond's Southside near Chesterfield County and extend Walmsley Boulevard from Commerce Road and Interstate 95 to Richmond Highway if approved by Richmond City Council.
If approved, the ordinance would give the city the right to acquire 4700 Trenton Avenue and part of 2001 Walmsley Boulevard, located near the Phillip Morris USA Manufacturing Center and the Bells Road Interstate 95 exit, to build a new city park.
Phillip Morris USA, which owns 2001 Walmsley Boulevard, would retain ownership of the rest of the land.
The plan also involves extending Walmsley Boulevard from Commerce Road to Richmond Highway and "developing an economic development site for commercial and civic growth with a workforce development component."
The ordinance will be on Richmond City Council's agenda on Tuesday, Nov. 12. More information about the plan and the project site can be found here.
