New Orleans Council President Helena Moreno files paperwork for mayoral run

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans City Council President and council at-large Helena Moreno has filed paperwork to become the next mayor of New Orleans.
According to the Louisiana Ethics Administration, Moreno filed thepaperwork on Aug. 27.

Moreno was first elected to the council in 2017 and has since build a reputation as an advocate for New Orleanians.
Her profile on the city's website says she "She's dedicated to championing change on behalf of our communities by demanding a fair, effective and unbiased justice system; health care as a right, not a privilege; living wages for our working families; strong climate action; and by securing and expanding civil and voting rights."
During a 2021 election, Moreno claimed victory as she was elected to her seat winning 85% of the vote and every precint in New Orleans.

While on the council she currently chairs the climate and sustainability and economic development committee. She formerly chaired the council’s budget committee and the utilities, cable, telecom, and technology committee which regulates Entergy New Orleans LLC.
Moreno has yet to make a formal announcement on her decision.
