A dry start to the weekend but it may not finish that way
Nov 08, 2024
It was a pleasant finish to the week across Central and Eastern Kentucky as high pressure built into the Ohio Valley. The return of sunshine was a welcome sight after a couple of dreary days through the mid-week. Even with a few high clouds drifting into the area, afternoon highs reached the mid-60s which is a few degrees above average for early November. More dry weather is expected to kick off the weekend although it may not last long.
Saturday should be a great day to get outside and enjoy some delightful fall weather. After a chilly start to the day with morning lows dipping into the low 40s, more sunshine is on tap for the majority of the day with afternoon highs once again reaching the mid-60s in most locations. Some clouds should begin to build in later in the day indicating changes are on the way so if you have outdoor plans for the weekend, Saturday is the day to get them in. Our next storm system will roll toward the area with rain moving in Saturday night but the best chances should hold off until after sunset.
You’ll need the rain gear to wrap up the weekend on Sunday as an area of low pressure moves by to our north and the trailing cold front slides through the commonwealth. There should be plenty of available moisture with this system thanks to a breezy southwest flow so expect wet weather throughout the day on Sunday with widespread, steady rain and a few rumbles of thunder as well. Most locations should end up with around 1″ plus rainfall totals by the time the showers come to an end Sunday night. We’ll definitely take the soaking rain given the lack of rainfall through much of October. Afternoon highs still reach the upper 60s Sunday even with the clouds and rain around.
Sunshine should return for Veterans Day on Monday as more dry air builds into the area. We aren’t expecting a big push of cooler air behind the weekend storm system so afternoon highs look good early next week with highs in the low to mid-60s. Our overall weather pattern has become more active lately with rain chances every few days and that appears to be the case next week as well. We should remain dry through most of Wednesday before the next system brings additional rain chances along with the potential for a bit of a cooldown later in the week. It appears the bulk of the rain will fall Wednesday night and into Thursday morning before we dry out to end the week. Temperatures are looking closer to average with afternoon highs dropping back into the upper 50s.
