AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin FC and midfielder Dani Pereira agreed to a contract extension that could keep him around through the 2026 season. The club announced the deal Friday, three days after picking up the option year on his previous contract. He signed a one-year guaranteed contract with a club option for 2026. According to Major League Soccer Players Association data, Pereira made a base salary of $125,000 last season — one of the biggest bargains on the team. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed but will be made available by the MLSPA when the union updates its salary guide. Austin FC declines contract options for Alex Ring, four others Pereira has been with Austin FC since its inaugural season in 2021 but will no longer carry an international designation since he recently obtained a green card. He's a former MLS SuperDraft No. 1 pick and has scored three goals with 17 assists in 116 MLS appearances. He had a career-high eight assists for Verde and Black last season. "Austin FC is the place where I began my professional career and this Club and community have become like home for me and my family," he said. "I’m already looking forward to the start of preseason and can’t wait to play at Q2 Stadium again soon." Austin FC picks former FC Dallas boss as next head coach Pereira has made five caps for his country's national team, Venezuela, and played collegiately for Virginia Tech. Austin FC sporting director Rodolfo Borrell said while Pereira has improved significantly since coming into the league, there's more room for growth. "Dani arrived at Austin FC as a young player and has grown a tremendous amount in the four seasons since," he said. "He has become an important part of our midfield and still has potential to continue developing."
