Sometimes in real estate, says Jennifer Rice, in addition to a home, you sell a lifestyle. And 1479 Calhoun St. fits quite a nice lifestyle – a classic, yet newly renovated two-story home in Uptown New Orleans, formal entertainment space, porch and second-story balcony, corner lot, one block from Audubon Park, and the kicker: space for her client to ride his horses.
1479 Calhoun St. sold for $1,460,000 on Oct. 28. The home, originally built in 1890 and renovated in 2018, features 4 bedrooms, 3½ bathrooms, and 3,290 square feet of living space. The listing agent was Susan Saia, of RE/MAX N.O. Properties, and the sales agents were Rice and Lauren Mendheim, of the Jennifer Rice Team, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Preferred.
The home is in the “Golden Rectangle,” within Calhoun St., Magazine St., Jefferson Ave., and St. Charles Ave.
“Our client grew up on State Street. He has family in the neighborhood, and it’s truly a lifestyle he wanted back. Now he’s in a pristine home in a perfect location near Audubon Park,” said Rice. “You may also want to make best friends with him. He has one horse that he is housing at Cascade Stables and plans to ride, and he may bring another one down here.”
1479 Calhoun St. received a transformation in 2018 of the downstairs kitchen, den, bathrooms, closets, and new oak wood floors were installed throughout the first floor. Custom doors were installed for the closets, and the insides of the closets were also remodeled. HVAC units were installed in 2019. A yard, brick fence, steps, sidewalk, and irrigation were added in 2022. The renovated kitchen features Dacor, Kitchen Aid, and Subzero appliances, and a sitting breakfast room with space for entertainment. The original fireplace mantle still exists.
The design was led by local architecture and interior design firm Chrestia Staub + Board, owned by John Chrestia and Sandy Staub.
“The renovations were detailed, well thought out, and the historical authenticity was maintained while the beautiful transformation took place. It’s everything perfect you would expect about a classic, traditional, yet updated and modern Uptown New Orleans home,” said Mendheim. “There is a balcony off the primary suite on the second floor, and an elevated relaxing porch with a fenced-in front yard as well. It’s just a true picturesque feeling of Uptown New Orleans.”
