Shots fired in Southaven, suspect dies after crashing into 2 police cars

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man is dead after he crashed into two Southaven Police cars while fleeing from officers.
The Southaven Police Department responded to the North Creek Apartments just south of Stateline Road, between 301 and Horn Lake Road around 2 a.m. on Friday. Reports say shots were fired at another person at the apartment complex.
When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect they claim is responsible for firing shots was fleeing in a vehicle and crashed into a police car.

Officers pursued the suspect westbound on Stateline Road. Police say the suspect was driving "erratically" and crashed into another officer's vehicle, causing the suspect to leave the roadway and crash into the woodline.
The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. He has not been identified.
Stateline Road between Horn Lake Creek and 301 will be shut down for "an extended period" until the investigation is complete, and the police department is asking that people avoid the area until further notice.
SPD assures that there is no threat to the public at this time.
