Destination Louisiane: Exploring the world of the NELA Children's Museum
Nov 08, 2024
MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) -- Started almost 30 years ago, the NELA Children's Museum is a staple for children in the community. Here, kids can explore the world around them through fun and educational activities. With an Acadian Ambulance, STEM projects, a replica of the White House, and much more.
"So, we opened in 1998 with the first half of the Children's Museum, and then, of course, we expanded into this second space a few years later, because we immediately needed a larger space," said Melissa Saye, director of NELA Children's Museum.
Exciting updates are happening soon for the museum, as they are preparing to break ground on a brand new, much larger facility. This facility will keep all of the fun and excitement of the museum while adding some new activities to enjoy.
"We're in the process of a capital campaign to relocate to Forsythe Park and have a bigger and better, more state-of-the-art Children's Museum. We just cannot say enough about this community and the generosity of this community," said Saye.

Saye says her favorite part of the job is hearing the children come through the door, excited for what the museum has to offer. She also adds how heartwarming it is to see multiple generations of children come enjoy the fun of the museum.
