Trump flips Fresno County, latest results show

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — Presidential election results so far show Trump gaining more support from certain California counties than he did in 2020- the trend is most pronounced in the Central Valley with the key factor being the economy.
While Kamala Harris won the State of California, according to the California Secretary of State's Office, 10 counties that voted for Biden in 2020 have flipped from blue to red as of Thursday with around 55% of the votes counted.
In the San Joaquin Valley, they include Merced, Stanislaus and Fresno counties.
Thomas Holyoke, Fresno State Political Science Professor, said one of the mistakes the Harris Campaign made was failing to address America's economic hardship.
"One of the takeaways from Harris's defeat is going to be that she did not focus enough on economic problems nor did she distinguish herself enough from President Biden," Holyoke said.
According to the Fresno County Registrar's Office Website, Biden won Fresno County in 2020 by 52.9% with Trump at 45.7%.
As of Thursday, Trump won Fresno County by 53.3% with Harris at 44.38%.
"A lot more people have been hurting here due to inflation than probably other parts of California. So it was a much more of a visceral reaction here in the valley," Holyoke said.
Holyoke said Trump's messaging on a weak economy resonated in the Central Valley.
"Since Donald Trump had the record to point to, a lot of people were attracted by that message. And so, yeah, a lot of the valley seems to have really supported him. And Fresno County may have turned red," Holyoke said.
CAGOP Vice Chairman Corrin Rankin said the high cost of living in California is nearly impossible for many.
"The prices in California just seem unattainable. Buying a home, starting a family. These things are unattainable for the younger generation. So, when people hear President Trump's message of the things that he wants to address, the things that he wants to fix throughout the United States and California included, this is what they're looking for," Rankin said.
Rankin said Harris did virtually nothing to separate herself from President Biden's economic policies.
"She said, 'I can't think of anything,' that told America right there that there was going to be no difference, that they can continue to continue to expect rising cost, rising costs, rising crime, an unsecured border and conflict around the world," Rankin said.
