Weather Alert: Not as Warm Today; Red Flag Warning
Nov 08, 2024
WEATHER ALERT: A Red Flag Warning has been issued for today. The dry and gusty conditions continue. Please, no outdoor burning, as any fires could spread quickly. Please be careful when discarding smoking materials, too.
Good morning! We've had quite the stretch of weather here in Southeast New England with three straight days of 70s. Today will be a little cooler, but still well above average. It'll be gusty and dry today, and as a result we have a Red Flag Warning.
We've had elevated fire risks for the past couple of weeks, but a Red Flag Warning is issued when conditions are more dire. With gusty winds and dropping humidity levels today, any fires could spread even more quickly. Please....no outdoor burning.
Winds today will be gusting to 30mph from the west and northwest.
Drought updates are sent every Thursday morning, and we now have a moderate drought for most of Rhode Island and about 1/3 of Bristol County, MA. Conditions are slowly worsening over the rest of Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts, too.
We have not had any rain this month so far, and we are well below average for this autumn.

Saturday will be much more seasonable. Highs will be in the low to mid 50s in the afternoon with sunny skies. We'll be watching the development of a storm system in the middle of the country.
