A Sacramento jury convicted a man on the last day of October whose attacks against three women in Sacramento County a decade ago led him to be known as the "Clover Leaf Rapist." According to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, JD Simien was found guilty of two counts of kidnapping to commit another crime, two counts of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual battery by restraint and assault with intent to commit rape. •Video Above: 'Clover Leaf Rapist' suspect arrested (From Nov. 2021) Jurors also found true allegations of kidnapping, multiple victims and the use of a knife, the DA's office said. The trial came after DNA on rape kits and clothing of the victims led investigators to use "Investigative Genetic Genealogy" to track down Simien and he was arrested in November of 2021. The attacks happened between December 2013 and March 2014. Two of the three attacks occurred near the clover leaf interchange of Madison Avenue and I-80, just east of Sacramento McClellan Airport. In the first attack, a woman walking to meet her family was grabbed from behind and taken to the embankment of the clover leaf area, where she was strangled and raped, the DA's office said. Her attacker took her ID and reportedly told her he would kill her if she reported the attack. One month later, a woman walking with luggage to meet a friend who would take her to the airport was offered a ride before she was groped, stabbed in the neck, struck several times, and forced to commit sex acts near the interchange, the DA's office said. That woman's wallet was also taken and she was given a similar threat if she reported the crime. Two months later, in March of 2014, a woman walking home from a club was offered a ride to her apartment, but the attacker went into an empty lot and strangled and groped her before she was able to escape, the DA's office said. Simien faces a maximum sentence of 89 years to life in prison and will be sentenced on January 10, the DA's office said.
