GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- The North Carolina Folk Festival hosted a benefit concert for Hurricane Helene victims.
Clint Roberts, lead singer of the band, "Holler Choir" headlined the concert. It took place in front of hundreds of music lovers at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts in Greensboro.
Roberts says the part of western North Carolina he calls home was hit hard by the storm.
"But not nearly quite the scale of other sections of Asheville and all those other towns that I mentioned," Roberts said.
Roberts says towns like Brevard where he grew up have struggled to recover.
"Been very sobering. It kind of indicates how fragile all these systems that we live with ... are," Roberts said.
After seeing the devastation firsthand, Roberts and other musicians reached out to NC Folk Festival organizers about how they could help storm victims.
"They asked us to put on a benefit show, and we couldn't imagine any better way to do it," Roberts said.
On Thursday, "Holler Choir" and the Grammy-nominated band "Steep Canyon Rangers" headlined the show in Greensboro. There's no telling how long it'll take for parts of western NC to recover.
Roberts says using his voice as a vessel to help others is a great place to start.
"Thanks to everyone in Greensboro and from afar for coming here tonight and contributing to this event and supporting my home region. It means a lot," Roberts said.
If you couldn't make it to Thursday night's concert, there are other options to help.
