MOORESVILLE, N.C. — An urgent search for hidden cameras is underway on the campus of Davidson College after police charged a school electrician with felony secret peeping. Investigators said this man could have been doing this for years, at locations both on and off campus. Mooresville Police have charged 49-year-old Jeremy Whitworth with one felony count of secret peeping. Whitworth is an electrician, and has been employed by Davidson College since 2005 according to campus Police Chief Julian Coaxum. Police say Whitworth used a camera to secretly record women while in restrooms at multiple locations around Mooresville, possibly including the college campus. Davidson College announced Whitworth is now on leave and banned from entering campus. The College said his Catcard and key access has been shut down pending the outcome of the investigation. Mooresville Police Chief Ron Campurciani says law enforcement was tipped off that Whitworth may have been recording women in bathrooms. Chief Campurciani said Whitworth’s wife cooperated with investigators.  She let them search the couple’s home while Whitworth was away on a hunting trip. According to Chief Campurciani investigators found multiple cameras, phones, and laptops along with two hard drives full of videos and pictures of women using the restroom. Detectives said Whitworth could have been doing this for more 15 years. “There literally could be dozens and dozens of victims out there that we don’t know about,” Chief Campurciani said. A WCCB crew went to Whitworth’s home to talk to him. He was not there. Instead, Whitworth’s wife was in the front yard and told WCCB he no longer lives there. Mooresville’s Police said they also found recordings of women’s feet and legs in public. Investigators believe Whitworth took these videos in Chickfila, Target, and a Walmart in the Moorseville area. This is not necessarily a crime but police say it points to more victims. “It’s clear by some of these videos that these women were aware of this, based on their reaction and they turned away,” Chief Campurciani said. Investigators want to determine if Whitworth planted cameras around Mooresville. Police said they found a camera in his own home bathroom. According to Chief Campurciani Whitworth’s wife told them he may have also hidden a camera in an Airbnb owned by the couple. On the Davidson College campus, staff is searching for hidden cameras, but so far have found none. Whitworth is now out of jail on $10,000 bond. Mooresville Police have asked anyone who may have hired Whitworth to do electrical work for them or if they had an “abnormal encounter with him,” to call investigators at 704-658-9021.
