AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas is expected to conduct post-election audits for the Nov. 5 election, according to Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson. “Known as partial manual counts, these audits check the results of designated races through a hand-count process,” Nelson wrote. The audit would be the largest post-election audit conducted in state history, according to Nelson. “Texas leads the way in election integrity measures with checks before, during and after voting,” said Nelson. “This year’s audit will be the largest conducted in the state and underscore Texas' commitment to transparency."  The Secretary of State’s office also said it would include multiple offices and additional polling places for the audit.  Races to be audited include the presidential and U.S. Senate races, as well as having counties randomly select a county-level race for audit. Counties must begin the count no later than 72 hours after polls close and be completed no later than the 21st day after Election Day, according to the Secretary of State’s office. “The partial manual count cannot change the outcome of races but can alert candidates to issues in the tabulation that could lead to a full recount or an election contest,” the office said.
