AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Only isolated showers and storms are expected this evening as the majority of wet weather continues to stay northwest of the area. The Hill Country has the highest chance for evening storms and a very low (level 1 out of 5) severe weather risk is in place there tonight into early Friday. Rain coverage tonight will also be on the low side with only ~20% of Central Texas seeing measurable rain. Severe weather risk tonight (SPC) Friday we'll see an upper level low getting closer and a cold front pushing through the area. The result should mean higher rain chances than Thursday, but still some areas will miss out on rain. The front will be slow to march through the area with a broken line of showers and storms in the Hill Country in the morning through early afternoon before the front reaches the Austin metro and our eastern counties later in the afternoon and in the evening. A cold front will march a broken line of showers and storms slowly through the area on Friday While streamer showers and occasional storms are possible outside of the front, the frontal passage will provide the highest potential for rain. Friday rain chances A low (level 1 out of 5) severe weather threat is in place for almost all of Central Texas on Friday with the potential for some marginally severe hail and damaging wind. Severe Weather Risk on Friday (SPC) Rainfall won't amount to a lot for most of us with areas that see rain picking up 0.1"-0.75", but locally 1-2" will be possible in spots. Rainfall projections tonight + Friday This Weekend The aforementioned front should take away the rain chances this weekend with clearing conditions on Saturday and plenty of sunshine on Sunday. Weekend forecast Tracking the Tropics Hurricane Rafael Hurricane Rafael continues to look unlikely to impact Texas as the steering flow should push it south into Mexico and avoiding the Lone Star State.
