ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) -- ID checks are in progress at public high schools after a former student was accused of trespassing at Yorktown High School. Arlington Public Schools (APS) said the policy began at Yorktown on Wednesday, roughly a week after the trespassing incident there. ID checks at Wakefield High School and Washington-Liberty High School start Friday (Nov. 8). Cherrydale Holiday Market in Arlington "The safety and security of our students and staff is our priority. After every incident that occurs, we debrief and determine any necessary steps necessary to enhance safety and security," Jim Miller, Assistant Director, Safety, Security & Emergency Management, said in a statement to DCNewsNow.com. "Checking student IDs is an additional safety measure we are putting in place at the comprehensive high schools to add another layer of security to ensure that our schools are safe in the morning and throughout the day." In order to enter the high school buidlings, students have to show identification to staff members. The ID can be a school-issued one with a picture and StudentVue accounts. Students are able to use government-issued IDs, too, including driver’s licenses.
