FORECAST: Still warm today before cooling off tonight
Nov 07, 2024
For most of this week, it's felt more like late August or early September, and that trend continues today. Low temperatures were only in the upper 50s and lower 60s this morning, and it's already warmed back up into the upper 70s and lower 80s. Part of the reason for another massive jump in temperatures was that the sunshine broke out for some locations, including DC, where another new record was possibly set when a reading of 82 degrees was recorded shortly after lunchtime. There is a healthy amount of cloud cover mixed in, though, as a front continues to push south of the area. A few showers may get rung out of this, but the longest dry stretch on record in the DMV will likely continue past today. It finally starts getting colder again tonight, with readings down into the 40s and 50s.
A typical November chill will return as we head into the weekend with northerly winds and high pressure setting up from the north. It won't be substantially colder on Friday, with highs still expected to reach the lower 70s. Sunny skies, excessively dry conditions, and slightly breezy winds will lead to fire weather concerns tomorrow, so take caution if outside. Calmer winds return Friday night as temperatures fall even more, down into the upper 30s and lower 40s. It will feel much more like we're in early November on Saturday, with high temperatures not getting out of the 50s across most of the area. Cloud cover will increase again Saturday night as a new storm system approaches, and this one looks to end this historic dry stretch finally.
After nearly 40 days, showers will spread across the area from west to east on Sunday and continue consistently into Sunday night. This rain won't be substantial enough to dent the drought, but we will see around a quarter to a half inch of rain for the first time in weeks. The cloudy and soggy conditions will keep it chilly, with highs in the 50s. A few showers will linger into Monday morning as a warm front passes, pushing temperatures back to around 70 degrees. A cold front will swing through and cool it back into the 60s as we dry out on Tuesday and Wednesday. Another chance of rain is possible down the line next Thursday.
Have a great rest of your Thursday!
