Drunk driver who led Hayward CHP on pursuit with 4yearold in tow arrested

(KRON) -- An alleged drunk driver who led the Hayward California Highway Patrol on a pursuit with a 4-year-old child in the car was apprehended, police said. Hayward CHP officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was going 90 mph.
The driver, police said, chose to flee, leading the CHP on a high-speed pursuit. The driver then exited the freeway, abandoned the car and took off on foot, with her 4-year-old child in tow, police said.

When she was apprehended, police said she had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system. This was not her first offense, the CHP said.
A male passenger who was also in the vehicle was found in illegal possession of a loaded firearm.
"Officers were horrified to discover a child was in the vehicle during these reckless acts," the CHP said. "They acted swiftly and safely apprehended both suspects, ensuring the child was unharmed."
Police did not provide specific details regarding where and when the incident occurred.
