WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- Sedgwick County held a graduation ceremony Thursday for those who successfully completed the Drug Court program. The 18-24-month substance abuse treatment program is for those who are on probation for crimes they were convicted of that are connected to their drug abuse. Sedgwick County began its program in 2008, and there are 13 other drug courts across the state. Woman dead, man injured after shooting in north Wichita “Graduating Drug Court is a tremendous accomplishment,” said Monica Harris, Specialty Courts Administrator. “Participants go through a long and immersive program of drug testing, treatment classes, comprehensive supervision and court appearances, while also dealing with work, parenting, paying restitution and rebuilding relationships broken by their criminal behavior.” Twenty-four people ages 29-69 graduated from the program Thursday.
